WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced Precision Punch and Tooling Corporation in Berlin is this week's "Murphy's Monday Manufacturer." Precision Punch and Tooling specializes in custom tooling, punches, dies and components for the medical and dental, aviation and automotive industries, as well as fine die and injection molding tooling. Their primary customers include Trumpf, Inc., Becton Dickenson, Northrup Grumman, Flextronics, and over 1,000 other companies in the tooling, punches, dies and components market.

Founded in 1965, Precision Punch continues to grow and expand its company and its workforce. In 2016, Precision Punch acquired manufacturer Eastern Industries, now Eastern Gage. This acquisition increased both companies’ product offerings and enhanced Eastern Gage’s manufacturing processes with Precision Punch’s advanced systems and processes. Precision Punch employs 70 people at its 44,000 square foot facility in Berlin. The company has seen yearly growth of 8-10%, which enables them to train and develop their employees in lean manufacturing and the methodologies of six sigma, a data-driven approach focused on eliminating defects in products. Precision Punch routinely works with Little League teams and churches in the Berlin community.

“Connecticut’s resurging manufacturing sector continues be successful because of companies like Precision Punch and Tooling. The tooling industry is critical to designing and producing the tools necessary to finish products,” said Murphy.

“Connecticut has a rich history of innovation and manufacturing and this continues to be essential for the future of all of us that call Connecticut home. The best part of my responsibilities is mentoring the development of our employees and providing the opportunity for them to care for their families,” said Kevin Gregoire, president of Precision Punch and Tooling.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating the state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
