The Trump administration is attempting to dramatically roll back benefits on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), one of the most important programs that helps low-wage workers, families, seniors, people with disabilities, and children.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) proposed a rule to eliminate categorical eligibility, which makes it easier for households to be eligible for SNAP if they already qualify for other forms of government assistance. USDA also proposed a rule to revise standard utility allowances, which will decrease income deductions for utility expenses that are used to determine SNAP benefit levels.
