HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that Allied Printing Services, Inc., a commercial printing firm in Manchester, is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” Founded in 1949, Allied Printing is a third-generation family owned and operated business that specializes in the manufacturing of full-color printed materials. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company aligned their resources to convert their manufacturing lines that ordinarily produce essential print, packaging and direct mail to producing much needed personal protective equipment (PPE), specifically face shields. These face shields are in turn donated to local hospitals, first responders, senior assistance caregivers and corrections organizations. The company doesn’t plan to stop there; Allied Printing’s next charitable initiative is the production of educational workbooks for CT Children’s for children who are being impacted by COVID-19. The company’s 376 employees work out of a 254,000 square-foot facility in Manchester.

“For over 70 years, Allied Printing has represented the very best that Connecticut manufacturing has to offer. Providing critical face shields to our frontline workers, first responders and caregivers, Allied Printing’s generosity and forward thinking will go a long way in saving lives and helping Connecticut defeat this pandemic. I’m proud to highlight their great work and my office stands ready to help anyway we can,” said Murphy.

“I am incredibly proud that Allied Printing Services has been able to react so quickly, and respond to this great need our country and state is facing,” said John Sommers, President & CEO of Allied Printing Services, Inc. “As an essential business who is open during this crisis, our number one priority has been to keep our employees safe. As a key supplier for our customers in various essential categories, we know how important our work is; but, we wanted to do more to help those in need. I’m thrilled that we have found a way to produce PPE face shields to donate to local hospitals, ambulatory services, and other healthcare providers.”

Allied Printing is also active in communities across Connecticut. The Allied Printing Services Charitable Foundation, which was founded in 2007, is the charitable arm of the company. They contribute annually to four specific characters: The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Cushing Academy, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and have contributed more than a million dollars over the past 12 years. Most recently, Allied Printing made a cash donation to “Hands on Hartford”, to help a local soup kitchen whose resources are very slim during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities. Senator Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the BuyAmerican.gov Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
