WASHINGTON–U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism, on Wednesday released the following statement on the death of Al Jazeera reporter and American citizen Shireen Abu Akleh in the West Bank while she was covering an Israeli military operation:
“Veteran American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was simply doing her job when she was shot and killed early this morning. Her heartbreaking death should be considered an attack on freedom of the press everywhere. There must be a thorough investigation and full accountability for those responsible,” said Murphy.
