WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), and U.S. Representative Jahana Hayes (CT-5) released the following statement after the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from gun manufacturer Remington Arms seeking to block the case brought by victims of the Sandy Hook School shooting, permitting a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling to stand and allowing the case to move forward to determine if Remington Arms is liable to the families for damages:
“The Sandy Hook families will have their day in court. The Supreme Court’s action today brings Sandy Hook families one step closer to justice – and is another crack in the legal armor of the gun industry. For years, gun manufacturers have been allowed to operate with near-blanket immunity – producing weapons of war and marketing them to the masses with zero accountability. This critical victory reinforces the need for Congress to pass legislation repealing the gun industry’s sweetheart immunity deal and unlocking the doors to justice for all victims of gun violence.”
