HARTFORD—U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) released the following statements after the Navy announced they have awarded a $67.3 million contract to Weeks Marine for construction of a new pier at Naval Submarine Base New London. The new pier will replace the current Pier 32, and will be the home port of multiple Virginia Class submarines.

“Construction in Connecticut equals jobs in Connecticut. This grant is a testament to the skilled workforce in our state who the Navy relies on to get the job done. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I’ll continue fighting to bring these dollars and jobs to our state,” said Murphy.

“This significant investment in a modern pier will accommodate multiple Virginia Class submarines - critical to our national security and the modernization of the New London SUBASE. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I have fought for funding that will ensure Connecticut’s only naval installation remains ready to deploy vital undersea assets. I am working closely with the Navy and contractor to ensure that Connecticut residents benefit from employment opportunities that result from the construction of this new pier,” said Blumenthal.
