WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Wednesday issued the following statement on violence in Nigeria:

“I stand with the peaceful protestors in Nigeria demanding police reform and an end to corruption in their country, and urge the Nigerian government to stop the violent crackdown on these demonstrations. Security forces involved in police brutality and violence against protestors should be held accountable for their actions, and the government should work with civil society to address the people’s grievances,” said Murphy.
