NEW LONDON — Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) visited the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (CGA) in New London, where he spoke at the Class of 2018’s Recommitment and Promotion Ceremony and administered the cadets’ Oath of Office. Murphy marked the Class of 2018’s 100th week and half-way point in training, as well as their transition from followers to leaders of the Corps. Following his remarks, Murphy took a tour of the CGA campus and met with CGA Superintendent Rear Admiral James E. Rendon.

“I was proud to see the young men and women at the Academy today move into the next phase of their training to be commissioned officers. Their level of devotion to duty and country is remarkable,” said Murphy. “Connecticut has been the proud home to the Academy for more than a century, and I promise to continue fighting in the Senate to make sure that Admiral Rendon, the officers, and cadets get all the support and recognition they deserve.”
