WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Monday after voting against the confirmation of Department of Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin.

“I want a Secretary of the Treasury who is going to wake up every day thinking about how to protect ordinary consumers and Main Street businesses," said Murphy. "That's not Steve Mnuchin. Instead of being a constructive voice for reform in the wake of the financial crisis, he used it to make a profit. He made millions taking over a failing bank and leaving homeowners out on the streets. I look forward to working with Mr. Mnuchin and his team, but I simply could not vote for him today.”
