HARTFORD - U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced on Monday that A-1 Machining Company of New Britain is this week’s “Murphy’s Monday Manufacturer.” A-1 manufactures turbine engine components for commercial and military aircraft, as well as land-based power generation. The New Britain company manufactures a wide variety of products, including retaining rings, fan cases, combustor domes, and compressor cases. Since its founding in 1979, A-1 has been headquartered in New Britain.

With the help of 61 employees, the A-1 manufacturing facility remains open 24 hours a day. They serve a number of renowned customers, including GE Aviation, Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace, and Arconic, among others.

Murphy said, “For nearly four decades, the A-1 team has manufactured dependable products for an impressive list of customers, including many other Connecticut-based aerospace manufacturers. I know that A-1 is looking to grow their capabilities and expand their shop, and my office is here to support them along the way.”

Tom Daily, President of A-1 Machining Company, said, “A-1 Machining Company follows the legacy in Connecticut of metal-working along with many other aerospace shops. The skill base for metal-working in Connecticut is an extraordinary resource, and A-1 receives work from all over the world because of the skill and long experience of its staff.”

The manufacturing industry plays a crucial role throughout Connecticut communities, creating new jobs and accelerating our state’s economic recovery. Today, Connecticut’s 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state’s jobs and 87% of the state’s total exports. In order to protect and grow manufacturing jobs in Connecticut, Murphy has introduced two pieces of legislation that aim to strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-made goods, the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act.
