WASHINGTON – During National Gun Violence Awareness Month, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), along with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and U.S. Representatives Mike Thompson (CA-05), Ted Deutch (FL-22), and Lucy McBath (GA-06) will hold a press event in front of the Capitol remembering the estimated 11,400 people who have died since the U.S. House of Representatives passed bipartisan universal background checks legislation 114 days ago and urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring the legislation up for a vote. According to recent data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 100 people die per day in the U.S. from firearm-related injuries. The members will be joined by former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords and gun violence prevention advocates from across the country.
